Model and Illustrator Langley Fox's Guide to East Side Living

View as Map

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Langley Fox is beautiful, talented and a Hemingway. Rough break, right? Despite boasting a pretty famed lineage (mom is Mariel, granddad is Ernest, older sister is Dree), Fox has made her own name in the world through her insanely excellent illustration work (see it right here). After studying at the Parson College of Art and Design and the Otis College of Art and Design, Fox settled in Silver Lake and began creating pieces for her own portfolio and in collaboration with brands like LF and Alice + Olivia. Now the artist and part-time model has linked up with Macy's brand Bar III to co-star in a new fashion video series that follows Fox along with blogger Julie Sariñana of Sincerely Jules around LA and on a Rose Bowl Flea shopping mission.

We caught up with the talented 20-something on a sunny Sunday while she was taking a break from her Rose Bowl taping to discuss her LA haunts and love of Sunset Junction. After the jump, Fox reveals just where she goes for her smoothies, groceries, vintage finds and more.

Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea

They have really good coffee. There's almost always a long line, but if you live nearby, you know when to go. Or at least I know when to go. I don't want to give away my secret, but…I go right around 9am because the people who have to be at work at 9 have already gone to get coffee and the rest of Silver Lake isn't there yet. There's a weird 15 minute window.

It's is a juice bar but they also have little treats. And I love health food. They have a anti-virus juice, which is a beet, apple, mango, and then I add swiss chard. It's really good for you and it's cheap, too. They also have a great seaweed salad.

Cafe Stella

The cafe is really good and the bar has nice candles and great drinks. It always smells good in there. It's the little things that matter.

Erewhon Natural Foods Market

I like to grocery shop here and spend all my hard-earned money. I'm good at not buying clothes so I buy expensive food. I eat at home a lot.

Real Food Daily

I'm not vegan, but I appreciate healthy food. Real Food Daily awesome and I love it.

I guess it's macrobiotic? [ed note: "It's like vegan, but with fish."] Right, which is what I pretty much am.

The Trails Cafe

I go on hikes in Griffith Park and there's a little cafe called Trails at the bottom of the park on Ferndell, and it's super cute. It's decorated with twinkle lights and they bake there in the morning so it always smells good, and there's a bunch of lovely people and families and children running around.

Canyon Coffee at the Laurel Canyon Country Store

Almost at the bottom of Laurel Canyon there's a coffee shop called Canyon Coffee that's super-hippie and fun. There's a deli/convienence store inside and anyone who lives in the area just goes and hangs out. The woman who makes the coffee is so nice and I have friends that live right up the street. It's just a great environment.

Squaresville

I've bought a bunch of good things at Squaresville. I found a wedding dress here that I wear a lot and some amazingly fitted overalls, which are awesome. I've also found skirts there and an ugly crop top that's like, snake print on swim material. It's so bad that I love it. Just random things.

Atwater Village Farmers Market

It's on Sundays. They have fantastic produce (some of the other farmer's markets don't) and there's one stand with almonds every which way. There are rosemary almonds, sweet almonds, blanched almonds—I'm a big fan of almonds. They also make almond butter, roasted almond butter, cinnamon almond butter and maple almond butter. It's really good. You can't go wrong with almond butter.

Blue Rooster Art Supplies

This is a small art store but it's cute. They have a lot of supplies. Between Blue Rooster and Blick, I'm pretty covered. And I enjoy going to Michael's for random crap.
