So supposedly, the Spring Edition of LAFW is when deep-pocketed benefactors step in and the oft-maligned week gets its own Downtown epicenter, a la Bryant Park in New York. But meanwhile, this edition feels a lot like last edition: a curious hodgepodge of events that are scattered mostly in Hollywood and Downtown. While we've still yet to hear about a marquee designer showing a collection that could really put LAFW (back) on the map, there's no shortage of interesting local designers and labels, like Joyrich, Skingraft, and even gown heavyweight Sue Wong. In theory, it all kicks off next Monday and lasts through?well, at least we're lucky it will be more like "LA Fashion Fortnight" than "LA Fashion Month," which is what it usually feels like.
So far, there are three open to the public extravaganzas:A Smashbox-sponsored evening at Space 15 Twenty with Smoke & Mirrors, Quail and others on Oct. 16; a pricey runway show for Rachael Broussard at the W Hollywood on Oct. 22; and Project Ethos at the Avalon the same night.
