Inside Cult-Fave NY Designer Rachel Comey’s First LA Boutique

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Our city's stylish shoppers must have given Rachel Comey an idea or two at her first West Coast sample sale last year. The cool East Coaster has joined luxe shopping stretch Melrose Place for her first LA boutique, which quietly debuted yesterday.

The indie designer — who began her brand as menswear — took over Joe's Jeans's former flagship next door to Alfred Coffee and transformed the 2,600-square-foot space into a Cali-luxe spin on her 95 Crosby shop. Interior design touches include a hand-felted mural in the dressing room, poured concrete walls, terra cotta-hued flooring, wraparound wicker seating, and exposed wood ceiling beams.

As far as merch, find Comey's full collection of women's ready-to-wear, denim, footwear, and accessories, including exclusive items only found in store.

Rachel Comey is open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm and Sunday from 12 to 6pm.
