Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There's certainly a time and a place for those crazy contouring palettes (Vegas, perhaps?) but for a lot of us girls, we're more interested in mastering the illusive no-makeup makeup look, which happens to be the specialty of Gloria Noto. The makeup artist's celebrity clients — which includes Shailene Woodley, Lykke Li, and Olivia Wilde — are certainly genetically-blessed, but don't let their practically bare-faced beauty fool you: their effortless glow actually requires a bit of, well, effort.

In addition to her work as a makeup maven for fashion editorials and features on famous faces, Noto also recently released her own line of natural skincare and beauty products, Noto Botanics, which we think qualifies her as an expert on looking lit from within using tricks beyond a highlighting cream (though her line boasts a super good one). That said, we recently turned to the glow master to drop some knowledge on us. Below find her best tips to getting totally radiant (including her meditation routine!), while still being able to pretend you #WokeUpLikeThis.

Start From Inside

I like to begin my 'Noto glow' routine before bed. I generally use a extra nourishing cream or my deep serum. I drink a glass of water along with some probiotics and then get at least seven hours of sleep. I wake up, have another glass of water, and make my coffee. While my coffee is brewing I meditate. I think of surrounding myself with love, inspiration, positivity, and peace. I picture a rose gold light around me.

It sounds silly but I swear it works! It sets my mind at ease and allows me to focus on my breath and to relax. Then I pour my coffee and add Sun Potion's reishi, and pine pollen to my drink. This makes an elixir that aids in my mood, my energy, and my focus.

Quench Thirsty Skin

After I cleanse my face I begin to build a dewy glow by first using my Deep Serum as a moisturizer. Yes, it's an oil but its a deeply penetrating oil that soaks into your skin and doesn't look greasy, just refreshed. And it smells like grapefruit so it's extra delicious!

Add Some Shimmer

After applying Tarte Amazonian Clay cream foundation to the areas I would like to equalize in tone (under my eyes, around my nose), brush up the brows, and lightly fill them in (I love full brows on myself and usually on my clients) using a brow pencil or tinted brow gel with a clean mascara wand, I use my Hydra Highlighter. It's a non-glittery dewy definer that brings out the high points on the face like the temples, the bow of the lip, the inner corners of the eye and even the eyelids.

I also love using this product on the collar bone, the tops of hands and the shoulders and legs. It's perfect for an all over glow, and has healing herbs and oils in it that actually protect and nourish your skin.

Fake a Flush

I like to tap a stain, like our Multi-Benne, on the apples of the cheeks and the lips for a slight flush. The color of this one was inspired by the natural red our lips and cheeks produce when we're turned on, or when our heartbeat goes up. I wanted it to be something that you put on and feel sexy and natural when wearing it. Lastly I will add a few layers of mascara to bring out the lashes and add a flirty finish.

You can also build this look up by adding more tint and eyeliner if you want it intensified. You should express yourself how ever you want, but I created my line so you can do it in a way that isn't toxic to you or the environment. It's all about mindful self-expression!
