Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
SILVER LAKE — When isn't Los Angeles County Store (4333 W Sunset Boulevard) hosting an amazing trunk show? This weekend is no exception, and on Saturday from 12-2pm, the studio space will open its doors to Shop Miguez. The brand is known for its simple, chic, hand-stamped brass jewelry, emblazoned with positive messages and cool slogans. Since the Cali-based shop is online only, this is a great chance to see the wares in person and pick out the ones that speak to you. These mantra cuffs are where it's at.
WEST HOLLYWOOD — The Pacific Design Center (8687 Melrose Avenue) is always doing something cool and edgy. Celebrate the fifth year of its national arts program designLAb, overseen by art curator Helen Varola, with a kick-off to the summer art season, beginning with an opening reception on Friday from 5-9:30pm (head to the Blue Building’s 2nd floor). Make sure to check out Varola Gallery’s Morphic Fields installation by Anthony James and a group show at Thomas Paul Fine Art featuring works by Shepard Fairey, Jasper Johns, and Barbara Kruger. After opening night, most galleries are open from 11am-5pm, but make sure to check the list of events here.
