New York expats Brian Wolk and Claude Morais have settled into LA quite nicely. For their third Wolk Morais collection, the design duo took over Giorgio's at The Standard, Hollywood for a disco-powered show attended by a host of rising Hollywood talents.
Fresh off dressing Julia Roberts at Cannes, the designers presented a range of Saturday night-ready looks that's all "about the youthfulness," Morais tells us as frizzy-haired models buzz about in the makeshift backstage area on the hotel's second floor. (Hotel guests got quite the quintessential LA experience.) "Even Julia has this past of being a young ingénue to this woman who she is now and her approach to fashion; the way she wears her hair [and] clothes."
The FROW list read like a tween's dream team, with familiar TV faces like Teen Wolf's Arden Cho, actress Katherine McNamara, Disney grads Madison Pettis and Debby Ryan, Hart of Dixie star Claudia Lee, model/actress Cody Horn, actress Emily Robertson, and singer Alli Simpson, to name a few.
Continuing the modern-day Edwardian theme from their second collection, the designers took a decidedly "neo-romantic '80s approach" to their latest range, Wolk says. Morais adds that they also had starlets — like last night's guests — in mind when they dreamed up the liquid gold lamé dresses and brocade jumpsuits, which were made for going "from the carpet to Chateau or The Standard for dinner. We're exploring this idea of when you're all done up and you go for a burger [...] and then there's the paparazzi shooting you — but your hair is a little off or your makeup is not super perfect."
