Why Downtown's New A+R Home Decor Store Is a Big Deal

This highly-anticipated Row DTLA project is shaping up to be a pretty exciting venture. In addition to hosting the LA version of Brooklyn's crazy-popular Smorgasburg food hall, the whopping 30-acre Arts District space (and home to the closing American Apparel factory) will also host A+R—and the interior design mecca tell us that this will be their "grandest retail showroom yet."

In honor of the modern furniture store's 10-year anniversary, A+R is pulling out all the stops for their second LA shop (the first is on South LA Brea), especially this opening has been a long time coming. "We'd already been exploring DTLA for a good year or two before we closed our Abbot Kinney location in April 2015," explains Rose Apodaca, co-founder of A+R. "We'd outgrown it. Opening on La Brea in late 2012 accelerated this development, and we will most certainly continue operating our retail showroom at District La Brea. The recent DTLA rush has also meant that many developers lacking vision are staking ground—and chopping up once fabulous spaces to maximize their tenancy. When our broker David Fishbein (of Runyon Group) showed us Row last fall, we'd knew we'd found home."

Now that A+R has found a home at Row, they're ready to reveal that the space will be a whopping 6,800 square feet, and will include designated trade workstations, a library, a kitchen for event dinners, a space to host talks, and an additional 450-square-foot patio to showcase outdoor furniture, planters, and accessories.

A+R at Row DTLA is set to open September 2016.
