Tastemaker Monica Gutierrez's Style Reflects Her Love of LA and Coffee

Welcome to Style Crush, a new biweekly feature that shines a light on LA's best-dressed rising stars.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

As is the case with many Angelenos, Monica Gutierrez is a woman with many titles. Among these are tastemaker, brand manager, foodie, blogger, diehard Dodgers fan, and coffee aficionado—the last of which has recently parlayed into a brand new title: online shop owner.

Gutierrez, who was born and bred in LA, is getting ready to unveil Sipp Curated Goods, an e-tailer specializing in coffee-centric wares (think handmade ceramics, pins, totes, and beautifully packaged gifts). As evidenced by her sleek Instagram feed, the girl has an immaculate eye (and one that def inspired some of our picks for the most stylish coffee spots in town) so we can't wait to scope out merch once the store opens.

We met up with Monica over—you guessed it—a caffeinated beverage and got to know a bit more about the banged babe including the film character she's forever crushing on and the "grown up" item she's looking to splurge on.

Tell us about your outfit:

I love pieces that have a story or an interesting background. My sunglasses are from Moscot. They make detailed, handcrafted sunglasses and these are from a collaboration with the Ace Hotel. My jeans are from LA brand Citizens of Humanity, shoes are Puma, who did an awesome capsule with NYC-based artist Sophia Chang, t-shirt is from Bad Vibes Brigade. My friend Luis, was wearing this shirt on his Insta and I had to have it! Flair from Angel Face, Tuesday Bassen, and coffee friends, The Mayven. The bucket bag is from Baggu and the fur pom is from Cute Little Thing on Etsy.

Describe your style in three words:

Bangs, black, white.

What LA boutique is your happy place?

Pickett Fences! Maybe I'm biased because I work there, but we have amazing "one stop shopping." All of my major staples come from here and I really appreciate all the local/USA brands we carry. My other guilty pleasure, is Yolk in Silver Lake. I could spend hours in there.

What fashion item are you obsessed with buying right now?

I can't stop buying pins! There are so many to chose from and they make any outfit standout just a little bit more. Oh, and leather wallets are my happy place.

What are you currently on the hunt for?

"Grown-up" luggage. I just stumbled upon Raden and they have the coolest-looking, but functional travel stuff. It's tech combined with style. I'm coveting the pink carry-on for my weekend trips

Who's your style crush?

Forever Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction (ha, can you tell?). Also, I am constantly inspired by people I see on Instagram and I'm obsessed with Gaby Villalta's feed—pure eye candy. It's perfectly curated to her love of "pan dulce" pinks. I dare you to check it out and not be inspired!
