As an art director for brands including Vans (currently) and Quiksilver (previously), Jennifer Scruton spends a significant amount of time on the back end of a fashion photo shoot, which is a real shame considering that the LA native has an effortlessly cool style that totally deserves a spotlight—which is exactly what we intend to do.
Working closely with womenswear brands keeps Jennifer in the loop of trends and top-notch brands, and she opts to indulge primarily in accessories like a wear-with-everything gold pendant or a timeless, buttery leather moto jacket. The result is not only practical for her day-to-day work life, but also gives Jen the kind of chic-but-easy style most of us are constantly trying to perfect.
We caught up with Polish beauty at Block Party in her Highland Park hood, and learned the sage advice her mom gave her about getting dressed and the uncharacteristic recent buy that made her feel like a super babe.
Tell us about your outfit:
I'm all about wearing basics and accentuating with accessories—I've always been an accessories girl. My mom taught me that a woman can look fabulous wearing a basic tee and jeans as long as you have a great pair of shoes and killer purse. My uniform usually consists of some version of that.
I'm wearing my current favorite All Saints leather jacket, basics from Madewell, a pair of Dolce Vita leather shoes that I've had forever (they're so broken-in and comfortable) and a Mansur Gavriel bag that I kept in the box for over a year because I was scared it would get dirty. Now I'm embracing the aging process.
Describe your style in three words:
Simple, timeless, and androgynous.
What LA boutique is your happy place?
To name one spot would be an injustice. Right now I love Individual Medley. Its a one-stop shop of goodness.
What fashion item are you obsessed with buying right now?
I'm on a glasses kick right now. I'm not allowed to walk into the Garrett Leight store anymore—it's a dangerous place.
What are you currently on the hunt for?
I bought a gorgeous floral dress from Reformation recently, which is so out of my comfort zone. I felt so beautiful in it, so I'm currently searching for some similar pieces.
Who's your style crush?
Jennifer Lawrence. She can do no wrong.
