What the Team at Variety Wears to Work

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

If you're serious movie buff, chances are that you've perused Variety online and IRL. Founded all the way back in 1905, the LA-based trade publication is a major player in the entertainment industry, offering breaking film and television news (today we learned that Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are reuniting for a TV show!), film reviews, box office results, and much more.
We recently stopped by Variety's Sawtelle office digs to see what the company's major players wear to work. We also learned about their favorite organizational apps and disdain for crop tops.

Brooke Turpin, VP of Global Consumer and Strategic Partnerships, is an IRO leather peplum jacket, ThePerfext leather pants, a Topshop cashmere tank, Christian Louboutin suede booties, and a Saint Laurent bag.

Favorite guilty pleasure in entertainment:
A show on Reelz called Autopsy: The Last Hours. Medical evidence gained from the actual autopsies of celebrities—need I say more?

Favorite movie of all time:
Forrest Gump. I've always been inspired by Jenny's style through the '60s and '70s. Disco Jenny is my all-time fave.

Favorite TV show of all time:
Mad Men. Early Don Draper was addictive! Luckily, I grew out of bad boys like him, but it's still fun to watch.

Favorite apps to stay organized:
Outlook, if that counts as an app. I live by it!

Most ridiculous fashion trend:
Grown men wearing fedoras and pumas.

Most prized fashion item in your closet:
This IRO leather jacket that I recently scored on sale in Paris. I've finally found the perfect biker jacket that isn't too biker.

Guy Brown, West Coast Director, Consumer & Film, is wearing a Theory suit, a Hugo Boss shirt, and To Boot New York shoes.

Favorite guilty pleasure in entertainment:
Honestly, I hate to be no fun, but I really don't have any. I have always been a big movie buff, and I watch HBO, Netflix, ESPN, CNN, and entertainment news.

Favorite movie of all time:
The entire James Bond series, from classic 007 Sean Connery, to present day Daniel Craig.

Favorite TV show of all time:
Mad Men.

Favorite apps to stay organized:
I recommend Mint. It's a great app for personal finances and investments. It links your accounts, it's easy to use and helps keep budgets.

Most ridiculous fashion trend:
The late '80s/early '90s revival. But what a great time!

Go-to uniform:
I typically wear a suit three days a week—Hugo Boss, Theory, Varvatos, Armani—and I'll wear black slacks or a pair of J Brand jeans twice a week. Ferragamo are my go-to shoes.

Most prized fashion item in your closet:
I have a pair of Westward Leaning "Theodore Roosevelt" sunglasses. A portion of proceeds goes back to American conservation. I get more compliments on these glasses, whether I am in a suit or at the beach, than anything else. I love that they were a gift from my sister, Lauren (she works in fashion in New York) and her husband, Steve. I am lucky, because when Lauren is not traveling to Paris or Milan, she keeps me up-to-date with fashion trends.

Friends.

Favorite apps to stay organized:
Expensify and Keyring.

Most ridiculous fashion trend:
Super distressed shredded jeans and crop tops.

Most prized fashion item in your closet:
A YSL black monogramed leather clutch with gold chain. It's a classic, elegant piece that transitions well from day to night, from dinner party to black tie. This is a very special item for me because my boyfriend surprised me with it for my birthday, when I least expected it. He overheard me admiring my client's purse at an event—I never thought in a million years that he was paying attention!

Nikki Thompson, Manager of Strategic Partnerships, is wearing a Kensie dress, a Michael Kors bracelet, and Aldo shoes.

Favorite guilty pleasure in entertainment:
I'm addicted to football! Don’t interrupt me on Sundays from 10am to 8pm during football season.

Favorite movie of all time:
The original Sparkle movie, made in 1976. It's about three sisters in Brooklyn, trying to make it big in the music industry.

Favorite TV show of all time:
I'm stuck in the '90s and love Martin. I own every season and could watch it all day, every day.

Favorite apps to stay organized:
ESPN Sportscenter. It helps me keep track of football, basketball, and hockey in months where they overlap.

Most ridiculous beauty trend:
Body plumping injections! Women have to embrace their bodies. We're beautiful as is.

Most prized fashion item in your closet:
My Louis Vuitton hat. I can dress it up or down.

My Alarm app, not sure what I would do without it.

Most ridiculous fashion trend:
Ripped jeans. Why did they come back in style?

Favorite movie of all time:
Dirty Dancing. No one puts baby in the corner.

Favorite TV show of all time:
I am a diehard Scandal fan! Besides being a fierce, independent woman, Olivia Pope kills it with her fashion game. I completely geeked out when I found out the producers were incorporating color into Kerry Washington's wardrobe this season.

Favorite apps to stay organized:
I love DIY projects! Pinterest keeps all of my creative ideas in one place for food, fashion, and home decor.

Most ridiculous fashion trend:
Can someone please put an end to crop tops? I want to eat more ice cream.

Most prized fashion item in your closet:
I bought this fabulous white cape from Nordstrom last year. It is a staple in my wardrobe and always makes a bold statement.
