In honor of The Hollywood Reporter's annual "25 Most Powerful Stylists" issue (see the full list here), last night we stopped by Jimmy Choo's star-studded celebration for the entertainment pub, where we spotted two jumpsuits that gave us two very different feelings. While Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma Wickstead look was cool yet ambitious (only she could pull off a turtleneck/flared leg combo), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's stunning Galvan number was an instant win, reminding us that the model/actress and her longtime stylist Cher Coulter (THR's #24) can do no wrong.
Since Coachella is next month (already!) and RHW is one of our top festival style crushes, we had to corner the duo to learn more about their flawless teamwork and how Coulter created one of Rosie's most-wanted looks to date.
How did you two meet?
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (RHW): We met five years ago, almost to the day. Cher was one of the first people I met when I moved to LA from England—I knew no one here! I was interviewing for a stylist for my Transformers press tour, and I said to someone on my team that I love the way Kate Bosworth dresses. They told me, "Oh, that's Cher Coulter." Then I was like, "Cher? Who is named Cher?" Only in LA! Three days later, I get a knock on my door and there she was. She gave me this big "Hello!" and I hired her shortly after.
Years later, Rosie's Coachella 2012 look is still a Pinterest hit. How did you come up with the look?
Cher Coulter (CC): That was a good one, wasn't ii? Those Christopher Kane shorts with the floral appliqué were so fun and festival-ready.
RHW: I remember that it was close to my birthday, and we took a suitcase filled with clothes up to Palm Springs. That morning we looked in my closet and just started throwing stuff on. I loved the shorts, so we just paired it with a white button-down top. It wasn't a massive process or anything!
CC: Rosie really gets fashion, that's why those shorts worked. I think that she could be a stylist herself. She doesn't need anyone to tell her what to wear, she just knows.
Are you two heading to Coachella this year?
RHW: It's a Nochella for me, this time! The festival has changed a lot, I think. But I have some really great memories of it.
CC: I don't even know who's playing.
RHW: You know what? Wait. I think I'll end up going on one of the evenings. We'll see!
