Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
HOLLYWOOD—Eastside LA artist Ted Feighan brings his tropical collages to The Standard (8300 W Sunset Boulevard) for an opening reception celebrating the installation of his new works, entitled Return to Paradise. The exhibition runs as part of The Box Series at the hotel, held behind the front desk, and will be available for viewing through March 6th. Feighan's Return to Paradise is essentially an extension of the artwork he produced for his namesake 2013 album, and includes vibrant scenes of lush foliage and exotic animals in a surrealist environment. The Standard's opening reception is tomorrow night at 7pm, and you can RSVP to HollywoodRSVP@StandardHotels.com.
SANTA MONICA—Step back in time at V Lounge (2020 Wilshire Boulevard) this Friday thanks to Club TUBTHUMP's '90s party, chock full of throwback hip-hop, rock, pop, and grunge hits (Spin Doctors, anyone?) and guaranteed to be a sea of babydoll dresses and JNCO jeans. You'll find costume contests, photo booths, games, and themed drink specials from 8-10pm, with no cover before 11pm. The event is free, but RSVP here. Whip out your best Delia's-inspired look, put on a ring pop, and get hammered like it's 1995.
CULVER CITY—Animal welfare organization Found Animals (4235 Sepulveda Boulevard) is celebrating the Oscars with a paw-studded cocktail party and gifting suite for your feline or canine companions this Friday from 5:30-7:30pm. Walk a red carpet with your pet (everyone should know how to work a step-and-repeat in LA), and score sweet products and samples in the gifting suite. You can enter to win raffle prizes and enjoy local bites and sips from Tito's Vodka, Pitfire Pizza, and Sage Vegan Bistro.
