Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
BEVERLY GROVE—Decades (8214 Melrose Avenue) is one of our all-time favorite shops for a reason, and it's not just their unbelievable collection of vintage designer duds. They've got ins with some of the coolest people in the industry, and acclaimed couturier Valerj Pobega is one of them; she started as a model with the likes of Valentino, and went on to launch her eponymous label in 2008. Pobega's creations have been known to show up on Madonna, Ozzy Osbourne, and Selena Gomez, and this Thursday, her fall 2106 collection, Hero, lands at Decades. Inspired by her ultimate muse, David Bowie, you can expect Pobega's collection to run between $1,000-$4,000 (she hand-paints and sews each piece). The store recommends taking an Uber, since street parking is limited, and the event takes place from 6-9pm. Shoot an email to RSVP@decadesinc.com to reserve a spot.
CHINATOWN—For three years now, a group of underground artists have been gathering for a show that crosses all mediums and brings together two elements that will never go out of style: art and chocolate. Venture out to KGB Studios (1640 N Spring Street) in East Chinatown this Friday and Saturday from 7pm-2am for a wild party featuring not only LA's finest up-and-coming artists and photographers, but also body painting, live music, nail art, henna tattoos, and as much free chocolate as you can eat. In case you want something more substantial, there will also be bites from organic catering company Little Lily's Kitchen. Tickets are $15 here, and note that the event is 21+.
