Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

If chain gyms aren't really your speed and you much prefer to explore new and exciting workouts, you're lucky to live in LA. Our city is filled with tons of fun, off-the-wall fitness crazes that keep both your interest and heart rate going. One of our favorite finds is Sandbox Fitness in West Hollywood, which offers beach-worthy workouts in a giant indoor sandbox.

The company, which also has a location in Sherman Oaks, was founded in 2014 by husband-and-wife fitness vets David and Minna Herskowitz. In an effort to bring joint-gentle sand training to the masses, they had the bright idea to launch Sandbox, which offers a surfboard-balancing class called "Surfset" that quickly won over ABC's Shark Tank.

See the full roster of class types here (there's even a kids class!), and sign up here for a free trial session. Thereafter, pricing ranges from $26 for a single class to $199 for a monthly membership to $360 for a 20-pack.
