Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Although handful of RFC haunts made the cut on our best barre and yoga studios list, one people-pleasing sweat sanctuary was noticeably absent from the roundup. We're bummed to report that XTend Barre closed its doors late last month, but its owner has opened a new fitness haven featuring an entirely new workout concept. (Moulin Rouge vet Samantha Rabon tells us she sold the studio last year; more on her next venture soon.)
Owner Rachael Blumberg tells us she's now helping fitness fiends shed pounds at Plate Fit (309 N. Kings Rd.), which uses the Power Plate machine and a "high-energy soundtrack" for maximum calorie burning. By vibrating 25 to 50 times per second, Blumberg says, the tech-powered sesh results in a full-body cardio workout that can burn over 500 calories in under 30 minutes.
As an XTend frequenter notes, the studio sent out an email blast last month noting that it "was taken over by new ownership with the plans to renovate the space in and re-open with a fresh new look in West Hollywood. Unfortunately the landlord at this location was not willing to accommodate the renovation plans and has proved very difficult to deal with." (Lame.)
Take a peek at Plate Fit's sched here; single classes are $30 and an unlimited class package is $350 per month.
