Get Glam With a Gal Pal This Saturday in Pasadena

Welcome to Perfect Saturday, a semi-regular Racked feature in which we outline the best places to shop and spend the afternoon in a particular neighborhood, starting with brunch and ending—who knows!

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We don't know about you, but due to this heat wave our beauty routine has taken a major hit (thank goodness for blotting tissues). When Saturday rolls around and the thermostat dips slightly, consider turning your afternoon into a primp and pamper sesh with a girlfriend who's also in dire need of a little sprucing. We've zoned in on Pasadena as hot-spot (pun intended) for your glamming needs including places to have a stylish high tea, care for your cuticles, get a weather-proof blowout, and treat yo-self to some girlie underthings.

Start your day of shameless princess self-care with a proper high tea at Chado Tea Room (79 N Raymond Avenue). The "Afternoon Tea Tier," which includes toasted half sandwiches, a scone with cream and jam, fresh fruit, a cookie and cake slice (so deserved), and a pot of one of their 200 incredible tea varieties, will instinctively pop your pinkies up—that's the proper etiquette, no?

We've been raving about Olive & June's new Pasadena location (146 S Lake Avenue, so naturally its a must-do for getting glam while in the area. You'll fall for the girlie-chic interior design and your nails will love the salon's selection of DBP-free polishes like Flower, Deborah Lippman, and RGB. In fact, why not go all the way natural with OJ's "Margot" mani-pedi ($35 mani /$45 pedi) which utilitzes exclusively organic and eco-friendly products? And if you like a to make a statement with your mani, add on a bit of nail art like a cool stripe, tiny flowers, or half moons in contrasting colors (prices vary).

Did we mention that OJ has a secret door that lets you directly in to neighboring DryBar (146 S Lake Avenue)? These two go together like peas and carrots. Once you've got your nails perfectly polished, pop into the salon for a $40 blowout. The service includes a wash and dry with their sweet-smelling, signature product line, then your choice of styling (we're feeling the Dirty Martini for tousled textures). For $40 more, make it an updo, or add on a braid for $10. While you're getting beautified, enjoy some girl-friendly flicks (Gosling movies in heavy rotation) and a mimosa—and we're not judging those gossip mags you'll be browsing.

Whether you're in the market for a cozy t-shirt bra or something more, shall we say, saucy, Tres Jolie (350 S Lake Avenue #114) has you covered (literally) with an impressive assortment of well-made brands. If you've never been expertly fitted, let owner Rose get your measurements and suggest flattering styles or if you're already intimates experts, you and your bestie can go wild in their inventory of lacy nighties and cheeky panties. For fun, dare each other to pick up something outside the box!
