SANTA MONICA—Ron Robinson has been dressing rock royalty since the late 1960's, and since that time not too much has changed. His concept store in SaMo (1327 Fifth Street) is still a shopping destination for up-and-coming indie artists as well as iconic ones; all in search of the coolest apparel, accessories, and home decor. Given that fact, the venue serves as a perfect location for a reception of 108 Rock Star Guitars, a heralded photo book by author and photographer Lisa S. Johnson. The beautiful book—a must for guitar geeks and rock music lovers—showcases instruments from the likes of Jack White, Lou Reed, and Nancy Wilson (to name just a fraction) and boasts a forward by guitar god Les Paul. The themed reception, which takes place Thursday at 5pm, includes drinks from Wines That Rock and cake—modeled after a Jimmy Page Gibson double-neck—from Brie Darling Cakes. DJ Apollo Starr will take over the turntables to spin a series of classic rock tunes by musicians featured in the book.
WEST HOLLYWOOD—The Standard Hotel's (8300 Sunset Boulevard) food-centric storytelling event, "Eat Your Words" is back this Thursday night. Once again hosted by comedian and author Greg Walloch, the night's lineup includes food writer (LA Times, LA Weekly) Tracy Chabala, Shibumi chef and founder David Schlosser, Beowulf Jones, and Joel David Miller and Greg Bryson of Culver City's The Wallace. Let the crew whet your appetite from 8-10pm with their hilarious and surprising personal accounts. This event is free and open to the public.
