Last week, Mayor Eric Garcetti visited Westfield Century City to reveal more plans for the shopping centers highly-anticipated multi-million dollar makeover. Following recent renderings of the exciting new Eataly artisanal Italian markeplace (LA's first!), Nordstrom, and epic event area called The Terrace, there are tons of additional developments that are sure to make this 1.2 million square foot space our city's coolest destination for fashion and food when construction is complete in 2017.
Key developments will include a new look led by local interior design superstar Kelly Wearstler, who will "infuse the property's design and decor with an authentic Southern California vibe celebrating casual luxury and the outdoor lifestyle," the property reveals. "In collaboration with Westfield's own design studio, Wearstler will help create a total immersive experience in which every detail throughout the property's interior environment, no matter how small, is carefully considered."
For the car-less crowd, Westfield is following up its bike valet service with plans to "fully integrate the future Purple Line subway extension with access directly into the mall." (Drivers can look forward to 4,700 parking spaces, which is double the current total.) And for the art enthusiasts, "Century City will also introduce during the construction process original galleries of barricade art titled 'Shangri-LA'. Specially commissioned and curated to celebrate the city's rising fine arts stars, these interactive art pieces allude to the power of the West Coast's natural beauty."
Since Westfield Century City promises to create "approximately 10,000 new permanent retail and construction jobs and is projected to generate $1.4 billion in economic output," Mayor Garcetti calls this "exactly the kind of project that energizes our local economy."
