Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
From Hello Kitty fests and conventions to squeal-inducing cat cafés, kawaii things clearly have a fondness for our city. Next month, the Moshi Moshi Nippon Festival invades LA for the first time ever, bringing two full days of J-pop, cosplay, and more cute overload to Downtown's The Reef.
Happening Saturday, August 1st (10am to 10pm) and Sunday, August 2nd (10am to 5pm), the event promises a meet-and-greet with Harajuku icon and designer Ayumi Seto, photo booths, costumes, panels, fashion shows, and of course, shopping. In addition to live karaoke, there'll even a competition for aspiring singers, dancers, and other talents to become the next big J-pop star. (Could it be you?)
Advance single-day tickets are $11.54 and two-day tickets are $19.98 (both include fees); buy them online here.
