Rolling Hills Estates is a "bucolic" LA nabe that's home to 8,000 or so residents, who'll enjoy some major retail therapy upgrades next year. Renovations have begun on the 1961-built Peninsula Center, which will debut its new look and a host of directory additions at the end of 2016.

Per development company Vestar, the 300,000-square-foot shopping hub's $12 million makeover includes drought-friendly landscaping, upgraded facades, shiny new signage, and a "vehicular drive-through that will connect the two areas of the center." New shops include an 8,600-square-foot Ulta Beauty boutique that's opening in January 2016 and a 12,800-square-foot Sports Authority store set to arrive in November 2015.
