Rockstar Stylist Bryn Carter Is a Master at Resort Wear

Welcome to Style Crush, a new biweekly feature that shines a light on LA's best-dressed rising stars.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

When we met up for coffee with Bryn Carter on a sweltering day in her neighborhood of Echo Park, we were reminded immediately of why we've chosen her to be the first subject in our Style Crush series. Dressed in a gauzy, oversized shirt, classic jean cut-offs to showcase her killer gams, and the perfect amount of eclectic accessories, this wardrobe stylist (her client list includes Gavin Degraw, Linkin Park, and Alice in Chains) and founder of Quilted Love Project, which recycles fabric into quilts for the homeless community via LAMP community, showcased the perfect California casual style that we're forever lusting after.

And though her job gives Carter access to some of the coolest clothing firsthand, those who want to copy her style shouldn't fret; Bryn offers epic, semi-regular clothing sales (follow this Instagram for more details!) with some amazing vintage and contemporary finds.

We got the skinny on Bryn's perfect summer look, as well as a few details about where she shops, whose style envies, and what fashion item she's dying to get her hands on next.

Tell us about your outfit:

On a hot day, flowy is the way to go, and the denim shorts show off my stems! This shirt I got in Puerto Vallarta, but I've seen them carrying similar styles at Lux De Ville. These denim shorts have been with me at least 10 years. Just can't get rid of the old ones. And why should you? My boots have seen some days. They were originally light brown, but I spilled oil on them over a year and a half ago so I "fixed" them by getting them dyed!

As for my necklaces, the small celtic one used to be my mom's, the keys I collected years ago and put together, and then there's the crystal, which came from a hippy street vendor in Buenos Aires. My rings are by Stones of Strangers and were given to me right off the designer's hands! These particular ones are called Moving Mountains, because anyway you layer them, you are making your own mountain range. It's a rad idea. Lastly, these "Erika" Ray-Bans are awesome because they're so lightweight, and this vintage Dooney & Bourke purse goes with everything.
