Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
GLENDALE—We've been a fan of Jihan Zencirli from the first moment we laid eyes on her dreamy balloon creations with Geronimo Balloons. Since she started the business, the sassy, saavy lady has rightfully gone on to become a go-to gal of DIY decor, hence why the Americana (889 Americana Way) has tapped her to head this Saturday's DIY Camp. For a $15 ticket fee (buy yours here) guests will receive tutorials on creating a number of crafts including floral bouquets, jewelry, succulent gardens, and beauty lessons like how to braid your own hair or give yourself a foil mani. The event lasts from 1-5pm and also treats attendees to sweets from Sprinkles and Sno Con Amor.
EAGLE ROCK—Street Food Cinema's name alone tells you all the reasons this is one of our favorite regular summer events. They always seem to get it right with their nostalgic selections and this Saturday night's screening is no exception. Held on the Eagle Rock Recreation Center field (1100 Eagle Vista Drive), the series offers 80's staple Ferris Bueller's Day Off, starting at 8:30pm. Indulge in some pre-flick activities like music from Strangers You Know and eats from the likes of Drunken Cake Pops (okay, we're really in) and Baby's Badass Burgers when doors open at 5:30pm. Get your tickets for the event here so you can lock down a spot for you and your crew to ogle vintage Matthew Broderick. Total swoon.
WEST HOLLYWOOD—In celebration of five years at its home on Melrose Place, edgy womenswear brand Zero + Maria Cornejo (8408 Melrose Place) presents a shopping opportunity with a heart this Saturday. Shop and sip cocktails between 11am-7pm, when a portion of profits from any purchase made will be donated to Every Mother Counts, an organization which assists disadvantaged women in pregnancy and childbirth.
