Take a Scenic Hike and Shop Cool Swimwear with Dad this Saturday in Malibu

Welcome to Perfect Saturday, a semi-regular Racked feature in which we outline the best places to shop and spend the afternoon in a particular neighborhood, starting with brunch and ending—who knows!

Mr Siebert

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We figure by now everyone's fathers have enough mugs, ties, and swanky shaving kits (does he even use it??!) to last them a lifetime, so why not get Dad's Day weekend started off this Saturday with a little daycation in stunning Malibu? Follow our lead and pamper your pops by spending the day hiking a crazy gorgeous trail, brunching by the ocean, shopping for clothes you that won't make you embarrassed to be seen with him, and capping it all off by sampling some of the area's best wines at sunset.

In the Cut

Begin your day with a fresh and healthful meal at Malibu Farm Cafe (23000 Pacific Coast Highway). Located smack dab on the pier, this spot offers a breezy but warm vibe with incredible views of the majestic Pacific—that's why we're out here, right? Sustainable seafood dishes, like the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or crab cakes, are an especially great choice.

LA Canvas

Now that you're energized, you'll be able to power through one of Southern California's most epic trails. Though the drought has mostly dried up the trademark waterfalls (you'll catch a trickle at best) of Escondido Falls (27807 Pacific Coast Highway), there's still so much beauty to take in with hidden grottos, winding paths, and other natural wonders. Don't let the rope-led parts of this trail scare you, this hike is mostly beginner-friendly, though you and dad will get a good workout!

Vilebrequin

When we say French swimwear brand Vilebrequin (3939 Cross Creek Road #C100) offers styles inspired by St Tropez, we don't mean the skimpy, man-kini variety (thank goodness). Bring dad to this boutique in the Malibu Lumber Yard for full-coverage options in eye-catching colors and festive patterns.

The nearby Levi's store (3862 Cross Creek Road) offers classic denim options guaranteed to save any dude from the dreaded Dad Jeans syndrome. Enlist a member of their expert staff to ensure a proper fit, then peruse the shop's wide stock of washes and wears to suit any style.

Malibu Family Wines

Now that you've properly worn dad out, finish off the day at Malibu Family Wines (31740 Mullholland Way), where the two of you can reminisce about the good ol' days (except maybe the time you got caught sneaking out) while sipping cool glasses of the region's best varietals and taking in a killer sunset on the pretty patio.
