Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
VENICE—Get mom up and at 'em (and for a good cause!) this Sunday morning when The Kamala Collective hosts a morning yoga session at 11am at The Yoga Collective (512 Rose Ave.). Yogini Rachelle Tratt, who also founded jewelry line Neshama Project in honor of her own mother who passed away, will lead the class through one of her feel-good Soul Sessions. The Health-Ade sponsored event — horray for free samples! — will benefit The Farmhouse Project, an organization that provides farming materials for families in Uganda as a means of earning income.
SILVERLAKE—Because flowers, kittens and cookies are three of our favorite things, we won't be missing Sunday's "Mother's Day Kitten Party" at Los Angeles County Store (4333 Sunset Blvd.) which benefits neighborhood cat rescue organization, Luxe Paws, and celebrates "kitten moms" who have recently adopted. From 1-4pm, visit the non-profit's newly-saved kitties who are in need of forever homes, admire blooms from Of the Flowers, and snap up baked goods by cat-lover and acclaimed baker Sara Tao of Matchbox Kitchen.
SANTA MONICA—Get everything you need to spoil mom in one stop with Saturday's Mother's Day Pop-up Shop at Thyme Cafe & Market (1630 Ocean Park Blvd) from 10am-2pm. Silver Lake Farms offers fresh floral bouquets starting at $50, Janna Connor brings her sleek and stunning jewelry designs for purchase, and Food by Emily caterer Emily Glarner-Chan tempts with scrumptious chocolate truffles. The cafe has also whipped up a special gourmet-to-go menu for the occasion, loaded with everything you need to create a lovely spread for whoever you're celebrating Sunday. Take home some quiche lorraine or ready-to-bake scones and treat your special lady to breakfast in bed.
