Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
If you dig Sole Society's affordable accessories, you may want to head for lunch right about now. The Culver City-based brand's first daytime sample sale kicks off in exactly one hour, and we scored a sneak peek at the goods before doors officially opened.
First, the parking sitch: there's only street parking and old-school coin-op meters, so bring plenty of change. Now, onto the merch: sample shoes are $15 for booties; $10 for pumps, heels, flats, and wedges; and $20 for tall boots; with most in sizes 6 and 9. All spring styles are displayed against the walls; heels, flats, wedges, and pumps are $35 and boots are going for $45.
There's also a separate room filled with accessories, including satchels, clutches, and hobo bags ($25 to $35); scarves ($10 to $15); hats ($5 to $15); and sunnies ($10). You'll also find five-piece mystery bags of jewelry for $15. The main room houses $5 to $20 bins of past-season bags and scarves.
Check out the styles on offer in the gallery above, and note that the sale is credit card/debit only. Staff tells us that while RSVP is encouraged, it's not required. Come one, come all!
