MELROSE—Pharrell Williams is a top-selling musical artist, a prolific producer, and a host on a hit reality TV show. The stylish (never forget "the hat") multi-hypenate also happens to also dip his toe into both fashion and philanthropy, and a current collab has him immersed in both. William's company Bionic Yarn, which repurposes plastic bottles from the ocean by weaving them with polyester thread to create a new textile, is teaming up with denim line G-Star Raw for a curated collection that also happens to benefit the environment. Additionally, G-Star even created a free smart phone game, Battle For Big Blue (for which Pharrell created the sounds) that has players scouring oceans to recover plastic. This Friday the clothing brand's Melrose storefront (7966 Melrose Avenue) takes the gaming concept event further when they turn the space into a throwback barcade. In addition to offering an arcade-size version of the aforementioned game, guests to the 7-10pm event can also partake in classic ones like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Insanely delicious pizza from Jon & Vinny's will be served with PBR and Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad provides the tunes. If you want to join, be sure to RSVP to gstar_events@theswimminghorses.com.
DOWNTOWN—Golden Tote is a surprising shopping adventure. The company lets customers purchase different sized totes filled with fashionable-yet-affordable garments carefully selected for you by a team of stylists. This Friday and Saturday, for the 2nd annual Holiday Shopping Event, the company's downtown headquarters (2300 E 11th Street) invites you to purchase and fill your December bag with goodies IRL and score a personal styling session (make your appointment here). All boutique items including dresses, sweaters, accessories, gift sets, and more will be available during the soiree, plus other fashion and beauty vendors will be making a pit stop so you can grab a whole host of gifts while you're there. Check out the festivities from 2-7pm on Friday and 10am-5pm on Saturday.
VENICE—Fashion and lifestyle blogger Emily Schuman of Cupcakes & Cashmere is headed to Venice's now-permanent accessories shop Cuyana (1140 Abbot Kinney) for a shopping and styling session this Thursday. Guests are invited from 7-9pm to meet this chic lady and enjoy wine and nibbles. You can even score complimentary live monogramming when you make a purchase—personalizing these Turkish linen robes would be perfect for a luxe gift.
