Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Rick Owens, mystery man and human backpack fan, has managed to keep a lid on his West Cost flagship plans until fairly recently. He even admitted to the NY Times that there was "no rhyme or reason" to the timing of his LA debut—which is why, despite all our stalking, we're not surprised that his first-ever LA shop has secretly (and finally!) opened right under our noses.
Located next door to Jet Rag at 819 N. La Brea Ave., the 5,200-square-foot boutique is housed in a former ribbon factory, as WWD reports. The courtesy photos reveal that the Anna Tumaini-designed space is just as "Cecil B. DeMille-worthy" as we expected; the monochromatic mecca features an all-white exterior, high ceilings, a fog wall, and a floor-to-ceiling water tank that reflects the LA-bred/Paris-based designer's "take on a swimming pool."
Owens was strategic about not offering a glimpse inside the actual store (see another courtesy image below), so our only real peek will have to be IRL. Stay tuned for more!
