What You'll Find at Helmut Lang's Very Organized LA Sample Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Fans of Helmut Lang's super-sleek and effortless aesthetic will find the same vibe at the brand's incredibly organized sample sale, which kicked off in Santa Monica an hour ago. The minimalist-cool label's first LA sale is stocked with fall-ready womenswear and footwear (sorry, no bags) from past seasons—including fall 2014—for up to 70% off. Although there's plentiful selection and sizing, we're told inventory won't be restocked throughout the event. (Early lunch break?)

There's no need to dig through merch as everything is organized by silhouette and size (petite through large). Immediately to the left is the shoe section, which features two boot styles and a pair of heels ($199), followed by black bras (including athletic styles) for $39 a pop. There's also buttery leather jackets located throughout the space priced from $299 to $499 and up. Speaking of leathers, staff tells us this is the very first time black leather leggings and pants have made an appearance at their sales, and those are going for $299 to $359.

Back to the outerwear: fall-ready finds include moto jackets and blazers for $199, and there are also knit sweaters and hoodies in the back going for $119. As far as apparel, expect cut and sew tees and tanks for $59; woven tops, button-downs, and blouses for $119; shorts for $69; pants, denim, and skirts for $89; dresses for $119 to $225; and jumpsuits for $199.

Shoppers will need to get their bags checked at the door, so we recommend bringing just your wallet or a small cross-body. There are also communal fitting rooms with a maximum of 10 items. Scroll through the gallery above for a taste of what's inside the sale and head on over today until 7pm, tomorrow from 10am to 7pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Update 10/25, 8:30am: Helmut Lang tells us that all merch will be an additional 25% today.
