Help LA's Apolis Keep a Mexican Glass Studio Open, Do Your Dollars Good

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Here's yet another way to take your retail therapy one step further. Always one to help shoppers live a more socially-conscious lifestyle, CFDA-backed Apolis is collabing with Indiegogo for Global Citizen Exchange, its first-ever crowd-funded marketplace.

The DTLA-based brand's seeking support (read: $$) to help keep one of Mexico's last remaining glass-blowing studios alive. To do so, they're taking pre-orders (a.k.a. funding) for their new collection of recycled glassware, as seen above.

Per the brand's Indiegogo page, "crowd funding is a responsible way to manage supply and demand, avoid waste and provide YOU with a price that is 50% less than the retail value." Perks range from a drinking glass for a $15 contribution to a water carafe for a $30 pledge to a "cultural immersion trip" to Oaxaca, Mexico with Apolis's own Raan and Shea Parton for a cool—and conscience-fulfilling—$1,500 (airfare and/or shipping excluded).

The campaign has already nabbed over $5k in funding just one week in, and potential funders have until November 14th to throw money in the pot. Learn more about the entire business model and contribute here.
