HISTORIC CORE—There are some films that will be forever etched in our minds because of their memorable wardrobe design: Clueless, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Gone With the Wind, or Annie Hall to name a few. This year the Fashion Industries Guild has chosen to make their fund-raiser benefiting Cedars-Sinai's Congenital Heart Laboratory a Movie Night at the Orpheum Theater (842 S Broadway), choosing a flick with flawless fashion (waaaaaaay ahead of its time, we must say) as their feature. Saturday, the historic theater will offer a screening of the outrageously costumed Priscilla Queen of the Desert, with ticket sales donated to the cause. Individual tickets start at $35/person and VIP/Sponsorship opportunities are available above and beyond that price. Find out more about those options here. Tickets will be available at will call that evening at 6pm, with general entry at 7:30pm, and the show and program beginning at 8pm.
FAIRFAX—We love getting our retail therapy at The Grove (189 The Grove Drive), but in our opinion it's always been missing one quintessential destination: Sephora. Well our prayers have been answered because this Friday the shopping center welcomes the beauty retailer. The new store is kicking things off with a 2-day activation celebration in The Park that includes 15-minute mini makeovers from their expert staff and a live demo of looks straight from the brand's recent NYFW presentations. Pop by between regular hours of 10am-9pm Friday or 10am-10pm Saturday.
GLENDALE—This Saturday the Americana at Brand (889 Americana Way) offers the perfect healthy hang for the whole family. From 2-5pm, the shopping center hosts their Fall Wellness Expo and Family Festival featuring fitness stations for grown-ups (SoulCycle) and kids (Sandbox Fitness) alike, a visit from the Headshot Truck to snap family photos, face painting, crafts, musical performances by Beat Buds and Rhythm Child, and Q&A with various health specialists. $10 tickets for the event can be purchased in advance here (along with the option of $15 VIP tickets, which validates your parking for 3 hours and scores you a sweet goodie bag!).
SANTA MONICA—Trying to up your social media game? Whether its a personal blog you want to promote, or product/service you're trying to sell, let media maven Jennifer Puno teach you her secrets to organically increase your followers. Co-founder of travel community app Map as well as creative ad listing site I Love Creatives, Puno multiplied her fan base exponentially simply by knowing how to find her core audience and keep them consistently engaged, and that's exactly what she'll be discussing during her Instagram Marketing Workshop at General Assembly (1520 2nd Street) this Saturday from 11am-5pm. The $175 fee (click here to enroll) includes an in-depth examination of the app (Insta etiquette, setting goals, and building a brand book are among the topics of discussion) as well as a delicious lunch. Space is limited so if this one's for you, snag a spot ASAP.
