How to Dress for Cinespia's 'Purple Rain' Screening This Saturday

Welcome to Dress Code, a new feature borrowed from our sister site in which we pick an event in Los Angeles and ask three of our favorite shops to solve the what-do-I-even-wear-to-that dilemma.

A sneak peek at Satine's look.

The man, the butt-baring legend, the Artist Formerly Currently Known as Prince will be taking over Hollywood Forever cemetery—in silver screen form, that is, during Cinespia's outdoor movie screening of Purple Rain this Saturday. The sold-out (sorry!) show is the inspiration for today's installment of Dress Code, and we challenged a few of our fave LA shopping haunts—essential boutique Satine and edgy streetwear shop Round2LA—to style a look inspired by The Purple One.

Where: Round2LA, 600 S. Spring St. #109; (213) 858-2608

What:: Together California leggings and top, $90 and $110; Elle le Gaunt Black African Horn necklace, $75; Horse of Arabia mesh black shorts, $99; vintage Saks Fifth Avenue hat, $55; Jeffrey Campbell heels, $110.

Why: Round2LA owner Rocco Espinosa relived his first experience with The Purple One to style this look for shopper Jeffrey Roberts. "This brings me back to 1987 when I first saw him in concert," Espinosa. The mesh-on-prints and out-of-this-world witch heels were clearly must-haves because "well, you know Prince—you have to give him life with the man heels and the colors."

What: Maz Illustration silk cape scarf, $99; Lis Service crop top and high-waisted shorts, $55 each; vintage hat, $55; Jeffrey Campbell platform heels, $140.

Why: This look for Round2LA shopper Monica Gonzales was "inspired by the colors and style of Prince's early days," boutique owner Espinosa says. "Purple is a must when you think of Prince."

Where: Satine Boutique, 8134 W 3rd Street and 1508 Abbot Kinney Blvd; (323) 655-2142 and (310) 450-6218

What:: American Retro Veronika fox fur coat, $2,610; Shakuhachi Honeycomb lace midi-dress, $430, Stella McCartney Kristy Lug sole pump, $825

Why: Satine buyer Fern Boonyanit chose American Retro's wild fox fur coat as the ultimate "nod to 'The Kid' in the most extravagant way—the perfect homage to Prince!" The Shakuhachi midi-length slip dress will channel "your inner Apollonia, while the most amazing lug sole pump from Stella McCartney is for easy traction through the grass."

What:: Kenzo metallic mini dress, $725; Carmella Bernice Jacket (in hand), $525; 3.1 Phillip Lim Purple Fur Small Ryder satchel, $1,250; Toga heeled buckle boots, $615

Why: "I only wanted to see you underneath the purple rain...and who wouldn't?! The Lurex in this amazing Kenzo dress is a great nod to the '80s paired with a romantic tasseled cropped jacket from Carmella," Boonyanit tells us of this look for Satine's Abbot Kinney store stylist. "A touch of purple from that amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim fur bag—perfect for stashing snacks and maybe a little wine! And to add a little edge, our current obsession, the Toga heeled buckle boot."
