Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Malibu-raised Nikki Erwin is the designer behind LA handbag line Donatienne. With the Cali girl lifestyle in mind, Erwin launched the line back in 2011 with the vision of creating a collection of versatile bags that would work year-round. From celeb-approved mom bags to fringe-happy numbers to chic bucket bags to backpacks and tiny cross-body bags, the line has a little something for everyone. When Erwin isn't working away at her dreamy LA studio, she ventures to Downtown LA for some shopping. Here, she shares her three favorite Downtown boutiques where she scores the coolest new and vintage pieces.
[After] spending a few days a week in Downtown Los Angeles for the last three years, I've been able to put together a few go-to spots for all the necessities. When it comes to shopping, there are three great boutiques in a row: Cinema, Soho, and Virgo. I first was drawn to Virgo years ago when they had tons of vintage jean shorts with amazing Peruvian fabric paneling in the window. When I went inside, I learned that the stores are actually connected. They have [everything] a fashionista needs—both new and vintage pieces and the best part are the great prices. Looking good on a budget can be a challenge sometimes, but this trio has you covered. I never stop there without leaving with at least one thing every time. The girls that work there are so sweet and friendly and it's an all around great shopping experience.
