If you were stoked for French gem maker Aurelie Bidermann's expected City of Angeles outpost, get excited for another source of luxe accoutrements in LA, this time from a Stateside talent. After keeping tabs on very-buzzing Venice for quite some time now, Colorado-based fine jewelry designer Todd Reed is bringing his raw and recycled creations to arm party-loving Angelenos with a boutique on Abbot Kinney. Set to open in September, Reed's first LA outpost will serve as his West Coast flagship.
Located in the three-story storefront formerly occupied by event and pop-up space AK1511, the 6,000-square-foot location will offer the designer's nature-inspired gems on the first floor, which will also house a production facility. A bridal shop, offices and an outdoor atrium will take up the second floor, while the third floor will house a living space for the artist in residence and a VIP elevator for private clients. Currently stocked in LA at OK the Store, Reed's handcrafted line of jewelry (including bridal and men's) uses sustainable materials like recycled metals raw diamonds from socially-conscious sources, with pieces ranging from $1,045 for a silver band with raw green diamonds to $6,800 for a pear-shaped diamond ring in 18k gold and brown and brilliant stones.
"To me, Venice feels like home—it's just like Boulder, but close to the beach. Finding our niche in California has been a long-term dream of mine," Reed tells us. "Ultimately, I think that it's just a really great fit for us. I look forward to making a big splash in this community of local makers, and I'm excited to collaborate with them and immerse my brand within this amazing city."
The industrial-chic space will be designed by Denver-based architecture firm Tres Birds, who also dreamed up Reed's Boulder boutique, per a release. The spot will be decked out with over 1,000 plants to give the steel structure an organic touch and "dramatic color, a hint of fragrance and bursts of oxygen." In addition, the massive flagship will offer plenty of natural light to showcase Reed's sparkling stunners in a "self-illuminated" environment.
