Bummer news for beachside bookworms: in just a few months, Diesel, A Bookstore at Malibu Country Mart will officially close its doors for good. Shop co-owner John Evans tells Malibu Times that "slow foot traffic" and "steep rent" leave them no choice but pack up, and the impended shutter date will be no later than September 21.

"We've talked with [Malibu Country Mart] about reducing rent, about moving, about doing events, and we can talk to them again, but at the end of the day, you're tied into the lease you're tied into," Evans explains. Early signs of the bookstore's troubles began last year, when Evans publicly announced that the location was for sale.

Although Diesel, A Bookstore has no plans for a new Malibu location, fans can still get their fix in Brentwood.
