Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Very sad news. After 78 years in Hollywood and more than 20 years at this location, a tipster tells us that World Book & News reached its final chapter this past Sunday. The iconic haunt was deemed "California's largest 24-hour newsstand" for its remarkable collection of titles, from high-fashion glossies to foreign favorites to countercultures to daily newspapers from across the country.

"Hollywood character Diz will no longer be selling magazines to locals in her eclectic outfits and fabulous nails," the tipster writes. "She is also now out of work after 10 years on Cahuenga. The owner told her last Sunday. She will be missed and Hollywood will notice." See below for a final wave from Diz and check out some more tributes here and here.
