Last year, a Uniqlo chief exec said that they wanted to be "very careful" about opening a shop in our city because it's "like a new country." While we certainly respect the mega-popular Japanese retailer's calculated approach to location scouting, you'll see here, here and here, that LA has been kicking and screaming for an outpost for quite some time. (And those multiple openings in so-close-yet-so-far San Francisco aren't helping our frustration.) Well, locals may finally be put out of their misery soon, because a tipster tells us that Uniqlo has already signed a lease at South Coast Plaza.
Although neither party has confirmed the news, the idea doesn't sound too far-fetched, especially since SCP is already on Uniqlo's radar and the successful shopping center recently landed another major SoCal debut: Diptyque. Hey, it's not DTLA, but it will certainly do—that is, if the tip is true. Story developing!
