Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.
If you love luxury labels, but cringe when you see the hefty price tags, allow us to introduce you to local sustainable label StyleSaint. Unlike your typical high-end heavyweights, the market-disrupting line cuts out the middle man by designing and manufacturing locally, which means customers get quality designer pieces—think silk essentials, luxe basics, and everyday lacy things—at fast fashion prices. But that's not all: StyleSaint is also an online community where the fashion-obssesed can share tons of style images, which in turn serve as inspiration for the designs. Allison Beal is the savvy entrepreneur behind it all. Naturally, she digs anything that is made with love by artisans and Venice perfumerie Le Labo is one shop that tugs at her heartstrings.
The store is gorgeously industrial, vintage, and chic all at the same time. It's the type of place you would want to live in. Their fragrance bar allows you to create your own custom fragrances. Their candles are hand-poured and they even have a photo booth and lounge in the back with an amazing collection of books to scroll through. Even with all those gorgeous perks, the best part about this store is their commitment to craftsmanship and artisanship. From their displays that are handmade out of reclaimed wood in Missouri, to their candles that are poured one at a time in Mississippi, to their fragrance lab in New York, they have built an ethical supply chain of artisans and craftsman that are the heart of their products. This type of attention to process and respect for the people behind the product is a brand that's after my own heart.
