New Zealand's I Love Ugly Brings Sleek Menswear to La Brea

District La Brea is seriously giving Fairfax Avenue a run for its money. Following the openings of Bonobos Guideshop, GANT Rugger and that dope Undefeated relocation, the bustling shopping stretch has swiftly become the new go-to for well-dressed dudes. Another shop to add to the mix is I Love Ugly, an Auckland, New Zealand-based menswear retailer beloved by cool kids like Diplo. Located at 170 South La Brea, this is the premium menswear brand's very first store in the United States.

"We felt that after opening four stores in our backyard, it was time to take things to the next level and fulfill our ever-growing offshore demand," I Love Ugly tells us. "If we are comfortable, we aren't growing. We toyed with New York and San Francisco, but we loved LA and thought that because it is one of the most influential cities in the world it would be a great place to kickstart the brand in the USA and to a wider international community. Hollywood dominates so much of our popular culture these days, and it really has a unique way of shaping brands that come from here. So we wanted to immerse ourselves in that culture and in turn it will naturally affect the output of the brand."
