Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.
Husband-and-wife duo Mark and Emily Goldstein know Cali-cool fashion better than most. They're the owners of LA boutique chainlet Madison, which has been a staple on LA's shopping scene since its debut in 1989. The shoe-obssesed couple (seriously, have you seen Emily's insane shoe closet?) met while working at a local shoe store before they took the plunge and opened their first location on Melrose. From boots to party dresses, Madison is a fashion lover's dream stocking pieces by the likes of Proenza Schouler, Valentino, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, Chloe, and many more. We asked the couple where they like to shop in LA and they led us to their go-to spot filled with their latest shoe obsession: sneakers.
The Goldstein family—Mark, Jordan, Mia, [and I]—is having a retro Adidas moment. All four of us are rocking Stan Smith's in white with either the classic green or new red insignia's on the back of the shoe. Mark is also having a black Samba moment and Mia is now asking for shell toes.—Emily Goldstein
The Adidas store on Melrose is great as it carries a large selection of specialized retro product, stocks sizes, and is close to our office and flagship store.—Mark Goldstein
