Kate Spade Saturday Sets Up Shop on West Third Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's the first Tuesday of September (how did this happen?), but Saturday is upon us—Kate Spade Saturday, that is. The spunky, lower-priced little sister brand of Kate Spade New York is opening this fall in a 1,300-square-foot space on West Third Street, just across the way from the equally colorful Benefit cosmetics boutique and made-to-order scent bar Le Labo.

On the heels of big sis Kate's recent Calabasas store opening, the unveiling of Saturday's LA storefront marks the beginning of the quirky offshoot line's fast-moving U.S. expansion (it made its world debut in Japan earlier this year). After experimenting in NY with eBay-powered 24-hour window shops followed by a four-month pop-up, the little sister brand will also open a permanent shop in the Big Apple this fall. (Attention, Lena Dunham!)

Though we've yet to hear back from Spade reps, we're wondering if the LA shop will replace traditional signage with iPads, taking a cue from the NYC space's in-store format. In any case, we'll keep you posted as we find out more.
