Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
LA's Denim Refinery is bringing DIY to a whole new level and ZIP code. The jeanswear customizers are handing over the distressers to high rolling inhabitants of AKA Beverly Hills, giving residences of the extended-stay property a taste of the city's designer denim industry.
AKA tenants learn how to give their threads the signature DR vintage treatment like a pro and pick up pin and patch accessorizing tricks as part of the ritzy non-hotel's hands-on workshop. Though anyone can partake in the denim revival sesh—part of AKA's LIVE IT! program—only residents get to take a home an exclusive distressing tool so they can hone their skills once class is over.
Don't have the cash to stay at AKA? You can still give your gear the Denim Refinery revamp through their website or at their DTLA boutique.
