This Natural Charcoal Face Wash Is a Magnet for Impurities

Today's pick comes from Racked Boston editor Susie Kostaras.

Shamanuti Activated Charcoal Cleanser, $28 at Shamanuti.com

When I recently visited Follain, a just-opened natural skincare store here in Boston, a charcoal-based face wash was recommended for my sensitive combination skin. I've been obsessing ever since. Shamanuti is a brand based out of Massachusetts and operates on the mantra "Simple Skin Care for Complicated Creatures." The activated charcoal is known to behave like a magnet with impurities, with the added benefit of neutralizing the acidity of skin. Maple extract lends some mild exfoliating properties, and it's even approved for those with rosacea, acne, and eczema.

If you want to try it out, a travel-friendly one-ounce version is available for $10—which is what I did, but I will soon be purchasing the full four-ounce version at $28. I've barely made a dent (you only need a tiny bit at a time), so I can already see the value in it. My skin sees it too!
