Welcome to Store Sidekicks, a summer feature that salutes the most adorable creatures lazing about LA's boutiques. Know any cute mascots? Tell us about them here.

Skylight Books in Los Feliz houses a variety of literature from current best sellers to books on art, music and theater. One thing customers can always expect is a familiar face waiting at the door, or hidden somewhere in one of the store's cubicles. Franny, a tortoiseshell cat who celebrated her fourth birthday on April 15th, has called the bookstore home ever since she was just a few months old. She's as noticeable a fixture as the shop's nonfiction section.

General Manager and co-owner Kerry Slattery says that although Franny, whose mom belonged to a customer, has her own bed in the office, she spends most of her time in boxes and cubicles through the store, perhaps catching up on her reading? Like most cats, Franny prefers to watch from afar but will allow petting if she's in the mood.

During the afternoon, customers can find her hiding out by a tree in the center of the store. She also makes appearances during author signings. Some might even call her a celebrity in her own right, given that drawings of Franny can be found in various promotional materials throughout the store, including the hot-ticket Friends With Benefits" membership club.
