Calling all budding fashion designers: the Los Angeles Fashion Council wants to give you a chance to send your looks down the runway. Led by LAFC founder and LAFW advocate Kelsi Smith, Open Runway's mission is to shine a light on LA talent via monthly showcases. Coffeehouse singer-songwriters and aspiring comedians get their own open mic night, and that's the whole idea behind this series.
Kicking off June 22nd and running through August, up to five local designers each month will nab the opportunity to present their collections at fashion-inspired nightclub Couture in Hollywood. You know where this is going: from there, each collection's top look is sent to the jury. In this case, the jurors are LAFC's Facebook fans, who will vote on their favorite look. The finalists from each show then go head-to-head at the grand finale on September 28th, and the winner takes home a spot in LAFC's spring 2014 presentations.
The catch: as long as you're based in the City of Angels and have been in business for less than a year, Open Runway wants your deets ASAP. Did we mention that it's completely free to enter?
Once approved, each designer will be expected to present six to twelve looks at each show. While LAFC and Couture will provide the stage and VIP area, you'll have to bring your own models, hair and makeup, and soundtrack. Have what it takes? Hurry on over to LAFC's site and apply.—Danielle Directo-Meston
