Last weekend, an array of edgy dressers and hip hop hitmakers gathered at Scion's A/V Installation space on Melrose to catch the debut of Hood by Air's month-long "Morph" concept retail space. As mentioned, the space featured the luxury streetwear label's debut luggage collection, which was showcased on hooks "like bodies hanging on meat locks," designer Shayne Oliver described during our visit. How's that for imagery?

The shop's out-of-the-box design is a testament to Oliver's unique vision, which has inspired a host of top artists—including Rihanna and A$AP Rocky—to jump on the HBA train. "It's about taking something hood and turning it into luxury," explains the designer, who's visiting Cali for the first time. "So, I'm really happy that celebrities are coveting it." Covetable items include unisex graphic tees and leather backpacks inspired by the tough aesthetic of tattoo parlors.

Prior to passing through the bright red, meat locker-like curtains where HBA's killer, limited-edition designs reside, guests will encounter three walls filled with Scion-curated items from a variety of brands. Highlights include $18 antique bottle-shaped candles by Pollen Arts and $32 bracelets by Deborah Riehn. Swing by Monday through Friday through June 16.
