For the latest installment of KCRW's Guest DJ Project series, the LA-based public radio station (89.9FM) asked 16-year-old Rookie editor and style star Tavi Gevinson to select five tunes that define her current mood. Similar to previous guests like Rodarte and Jonathan Adler, Gevinson's playlist features an interesting array of artists, from legends like Bob Dylan to pop tarts like Taylor Swift.
"Her new album goes to a lot of places that the others didn't, and I feel like the others existed very much in a vacuum of high school and fairytales," Gevinson says of Swift. "And I love that, but I love the new one too, because all the imagery in the new one is more in the outside world. And it's exciting watching her grow and everything through her music."
The LA-obsessed blogger also selects songs from alt-rock queen Fiona Apple and indie rock bands Pavement and Galaxie 500. Check out her full playlist and download the podcast here.
