Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Before opening his interior design firm in 2005, Oliver Furth was once quoted by Elle Décor as having a style that is "grounded in classical traditions, though he approaches them with aristo irreverence and West Coast optimism." Furth's design projects and philanthropic work for the decorative arts community have received accolades from many other pubs, including the Wall Street Journal, House & Garden, House Beautiful, the LA Times, the Huffington Post and C Magazine. He's been called one of the '20 top young designers in the country' by Traditional Home and most recently, The Hollywood Reporter included him in their 2012 list of "Hollywood's Most Influential Interior Designers." Here, he reveals his favorite place for gifts on Melrose Place.

I'd like to recommend Arte & Cuoio, the Italian leather good 'shop within a shop' located within the Santa Maria Novella store on Melrose Place. They make exquisite leather accessories (trays, bowls, baskets, bowls) and small furniture—all in beautiful, striking colors. I am a devoted lover of Santa Maria Novella, and discovered Arte & Cuoio while buying potpourri and soap up front. The leather goods are hidden ...in the back...through a door...down the hall. Now, this is a must-stop for many of my projects and they have great items for offices or bathrooms, fireside or bedside. It's a perfect spot for good gifts, too.
