Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Known as the stationer to the stars, Marc Friedland is America's foremost custom invitation and social communications designer. He has worked with some of the biggest celebs out there such as Elton John, Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez and John Travolta. In 2011, Marc was selected to create the first ever custom-designed envelopes and Oscar winners' announcement cards for the Academy Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The relationship has expanded and Marc now designs all Oscar-related event invitations. Here, he tells us where he goes for all his colorful pocket squares and ties.
My personal style has evolved over the years, but really took form since living in LA. At best, I would describe it as somewhere between 'garanimal chic' and 'eclectic couture'. A lot of what I wear is mood-dependent, but having an assorted palette of socks, shirts, pocket squares and jackets to pick from each morning is nothing short of creating a daily canvas of textile inspiration. All of this would imply that I scour the best retail shops to create these clothing cocktails, but truth be told, I'm such a creature of habit when it comes to shopping. One such hidden treasure is Avedon. Named in honor of the famed fashion photographer, this gem of a boutique has the most eclectic and fine tailored assortment of the best work from small international designers from London, Italy, Spain, Paris and the states. The owners (Reza and Yasmine) are fantastic and I count on them to be my eyes in the marketplace to discover the most timeless, well-made and well-curated assortment of men's fashion. Their attention to detail, style and personal attention is reminiscent of the haberdashery of a forgotten era.
