Are you one of those last-minute NYE party planners who pays homage to IKEA, the Scandinavian patron saint of particle board side tables and this-will-do-for-now seating? Seeing as those $5 folding chairs you hastily snapped up last year are due to inexplicably collapse any day now (it happens), newish Sherman Oaks store The Wood Shop LA's handcrafted home furniture might be a better option this time around.
As it happens, the upcycled wooden goods shop is hosting their "New Year, New Room" event this Saturday, when shoppers can enjoy free bubbly and bites, plus 20% off select pieces from their collection of locally-made wares, including merch from Dolenz and Daughters (yes, that Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees). On top of that, store owner Tommy Ritter will be on hand to dish out pro advice on refurbishing and building furniture, should 2014 be the year that you go all Martha Stewart on that outdated bedroom set.
