Los Angeles has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around LA that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.
Angie Banicki loves writing and traveling, so it makes sense that she combined her two passions into a career as a travel writer. When we asked Angie about her favorite spot in LA to shop, she pointed us to this bookish haunt on West 3rd Street.
"My secret shopping spot is Traveler's Bookcase on 3rd Street. Four years ago I discovered my passion for travel. When I can't actually be away, I find myself at TB searching for inspiration for upcoming trips or just living vicariously through the stories inside the books in the store. TB allows you to escape to another world when you wake up on a Sunday morning with the urge to get away. The shop's owners and staff always have fun travel stories and good advice. I don't think I've ever spent less than an hour in the store or can limit myself to one purchase, even if I just go to pick up a gift. I have found some of the most creative gifts for friends and family in the shop, like the journal called Inspiring Travelers I've Met that I got for my brother.Last but not least, my dog Betty White is allowed in the store and she climbs on their comfy couch after sniffing out every corner. She always makes friends with other fascinating travelers in the store seeking out info for their next trip."
